CHARLIE CHAPLIN

Sir Charles Spencer Chaplin (better known as "Charlie") was one of the best-known comic actors of the silent film era. Before starting his film career, Chaplin was part of a touring dance troupe by the name of The Eight Lancashire Lads. But after moving from England to the United States in 1913, Chaplin was hired at a film studio as a replacement for another actor. The transition from stage to film acting was difficult for him, but in 1914, his first film, The Tramp, was debuted and Chaplin's character quickly became the most popular one in the film.

Not only was Chaplin a well-known film actor, but also a well-known film director. Chaplin's first films were continuations of his first acting role, the Little Tramp. In 1916, Chaplin was paid 670,000 U.S. dollars by the Mutual Film Corporation to produce twelve comedies. The challenge was met within eighteen months and the twelve films are still considered to be the most influential comedy films of all time.
