Rudolph Valentino (born Rodolfo Alfonso Rafaello Piero Filiberto Guglielmi), Italian actor and pop icon, was one of the most popular internationally known movie stars of the 1920's.
At the young age of 18, Valentino traveled to the United States in search of employment. Upon arrival, he quickly ran out of money and had no choice but to live on the streets. He was eventually able to support himself by holding small jobs such as gardening and bussing tables.
In 1917, Valentino moved to New York, where he starred in his first film, "The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse", which was based on the novel by Vicente Blasco Ibáñez. "The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse" was ranked as the sixth highest grossing silent film ever made and was one of the first to make over $1,ooo,ooo at the box office.
